Mold Maker Apprentice
Summary
The Apprentice Moldmaker is responsible for learning various mold-making operations including precision
milling, grinding, sinker EDM, wire EDM, assembly, and troubleshooting of high-precision injection molds.

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enthusiastic about pursuing a career in mold making.
- Basic understanding of machining principles is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Capacity to follow instructions and safety guidelines in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up 50lb with or without assistance.
- Reliable vision and motor skills needed for the operation of heavy machinery and cutting tools.
- Ability to move easily from one area to another, able to stoop, reach and bend.
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near
moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. - The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Compensation:
- Wages Depending on Experience (DOE)

Duties & Responsibilities
- Proactive team member working directly with experienced mold makers. Assist in the construction, troubleshooting, and repair of plastic injection molds.
- Safely operate all types of toolroom equipment required to manufacture mold components.
- Learn to set up and operate CNC and manual milling machines, surface grinders, and EDM machines under the guidance of experienced mold makers.
- Work closely with experienced mold makers to inspect and prepare new and transferred tools for production.
- Utilize inspection equipment to check parts against 3D models or prints, contributing to the assurance of quality standards.
- Identify and report issues, actively participating in problem-solving activities for optimal tool performance.
- Learn and participate in preventative maintenance (PM) procedures and tool cleaning protocols.
- Develop skills in making minor repairs and modifications to molds, fixtures, and other tools using mill, lathe, and various traditional equipment.
- Acquire proficiency in replacing standard mold components and spare parts.
- Gain competence in interpreting drawings, blueprints, and/or CAD designs.
- Participate in on-site CNC operations, learning basic machining procedures and techniques.
- Maintain the organization of the mold shop.
